The Code of Virginia requires that an applicant for a Virginia Concealed Handgun Permit demonstrates competence with a handgun by showing proof of firearms safety training.

This may be achieved by completing either our Basic Firearms Safety class, Utah Concealed Firearm Permit class, or NRA Basic Pistol Shooting class (at our Doswell Range facility). Any of these classes will meet the Virginia requirement to apply for a Virginia CHP.

Once you have completed the class, you will receive a certificate. You will need to take a photocopy of that certificate to your local Circuit Court Clerk’s Office. There, you can obtain an application for a Virginia Concealed Handgun Permit (or you may print one ahead of time from the link above).

Some jurisdictions require fingerprinting. The Clerk’s Office will advise you if this is a requirement in the County/City where you reside, and where to go to get fingerprints done.

Submit your completed application, a copy of the certificate from the class, your fingerprint card (if it was required), and the permit fee of $50.00 (some jurisdictions do charge less, but by law it can be no more than $50.00). Once these items are submitted to the Clerk of the Circuit Court, they have 45 calendar days to either issue your permit, or give you a reason why your permit was denied.

Special Class!
The Nation’s Gun Show!
Proactive Shooters is proud to announce that we will again be conducting our Basic Firearms Safety class at the Nation’s Gun Show in Chantilly, Virginia. This class will qualify you to apply for a Virginia Concealed Handgun Permit.
The class will be conducted on Saturday, February 11th, 2012 and Sunday, February 12th, 2012 from 12 noon – 5pm each day. You only need to attend the class on one of the two days.
The cost of the class is $69.00. In order to reserve a seat, you must register and advance payment is required. The new advance payment policy for these classes is due to the high number of students who register and fail to attend the class, or fail to cancel their registration. Naturally, a seat held for a student that doesn’t show up means that other students are unable to attend the class. Many of our Nation’s Gun Show classes are sold out, so ”no shows” impact everyone.
You may make advance payment via credit/debit card on our website, or by mailing a check or money order in to our offices before the class date. Walk-ins will be welcomed on the day of class and they may pay by cash, check or money order at the door on a first come, first served basis.
Class location will be at the Holiday Inn Hotel, Chantilly, Va., located directly on site at the Nation’s Gun Show.

The hotel is located at 4335 Chantilly Shopping Center, Chantilly, VA 20151, and it is on site at the Dulles Expo Center, home of the Nation’s Gun Show.
Seating is limited, so early registration is recommended. Upon completion of the class, a certificate will be provided that will allow you to apply for your Virginia Concealed Handgun Permit.
