A 42-year-old parishner of a Colorado church, stopped a crazed gunman from continuing his killing spree. Jeanne Assam, a former police officer and current concealed carry permit holder engaged the suspect as he fired his assault weapon randomly through the church. The gunman had already killed two teenage sisters in the parking lot as well as wounding their father. Ms. Assam told the suspect to surrender and when he refused and pointed his weapon at her, she fired.
After the shooting, a witness said “she was completely exposed. I was in Vietnam for 14 months in combat, and it’s the bravest thing I’ve ever witnessed. She kept yelling, ‘Surrender,’ and returned fire the complete time. That’s the calmest, bravest thing I‘ve ever seen“
